Raytheon gets $145M contract for Kuwait defense

The defense contractor Raytheon. Corp, has just been awarded a  $145 million dollar contract from the U.S Army Aviation and Missile Command.  The contract  will have  Raytheon  build  patriot missiles for Kuwaits air and missile defense systems.   Raytheon  at the same time will be continuing to develop an upgrade for Kuwait’s radar system.

Budget cuts hit Boeing

Boeing Company announced last week that it will be firing almost 1000 workers, around 1.4% of its staff. The cuts are concentrated in its missile defense and future combat systems departments. A spokesperson for Boeing said that, “Shifting defense department priorities and budget cuts are requiring the company to bring the workforce into alignment with the funding in the near term and the work packages that our customers are providing.”

Boeing is the Pentagons second largest contractor after Lockheed Martin. It is the prime contractor of the Ground Based Midcourse (GMD) missile defense where it is responsible for the production of the Sea-Based X-Band Radar (SBX), the Ground Based Interceptors (GBIs) as well as the command and control components of the system. Among other things, it is developing the Airborne Laser (ABL) and jointly producing the Arrow missile defense with the Israel.
