The United States Army launched its first satellite in over 50 years this morning at 10:43 am. ET. The purpose of this flight is to be able to launch transmit information for space to a ground transmitter. If this launch, and procedure is successful then the Army will be able to build, and deploy other satellites just like it. The primary payload for this flight is the SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft.

New Mexico Governor, Kevin Richardson is traveling to North Korea from Dec. 16th – 20th. He is going in hopes to ease tensions with Pyongyang, and their Nuclear Program. He is going as a private citizens, and not carrying any messages. These are the views of the author and do not reflect those of MDAA.

The United States House of Representatives recently approved a $200 Million Budget for Israel to build a missile defense system called the “Iron Dome”. This system is a “short-range anti missile defense system”. Israel has successfully tested the missile, and now the next step is integrating it into the Israeli Army. The fact that the United States is providing funding for Israel is sending a strong message to both of the countries enemies, and allies.

Recent polling done by a U.S. Organization shows that many Iranians want Nuclear Weapons. Despite stating that, the sanctions put in place by the United Nations is having a great effect, they feel that if Iran was bombed it would come from the United States. With this being felt the number of Iranians who were pro United States in 2008 feel from 34% to now just 8%. Furthermore, the polls showed that more than half of Iranians supported Ahmadinejad, despite the fact that he is a very mistrusted figure in the United States and the Middle East.

With the growing threat of ballistic missiles, protection is needed. Talks of a Gulf wide Missile Shield happened recently, and if this happens it would be a huge deterrent to the Middle Eastern regimes, and in Asia. The United States has not disclosed any information as to where, but they have place Patriot Missile systems in the Gulf. However, there is still a big threat. “The threat of attack by long- range ballistic missiles remains clear,” said Major Gen Ali al Ka’abi, the deputy chief of staff of the UAE Armed Forces.

The United States Secretary of Defense is to meet with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed al-Nahayan. They will be discussing the problems in the Middle East. Their talks with involve that of Iraq, Yemen, and certainly Iran. The United States has been recieving increasing pressure in order to diffuse the Iranian nuclear power. The most famous of this pressure was when the Prince of Saudi Arabia said to “cut the head of the snake”.
