According to an opinion piece in the New York Times “The world’s nuclear wannabes, starting with Iran, should send a thank you note to Senator Jon Kyl. After months of negotiations with the White House, he has decided to try to block the lame-duck Senate from ratifying the New Start arms control treaty”. The critical need for the New START Treaty it is so essential to National Security it is essential that it be passed. The fact that Senator Kyl, and the Republican Party want to block it is absurd.

According to the Russia Trud agency, in citing the Japanese News Agency, Kyodo, North Korea will conduct an underground Nuclear Test. According to U.S. Officials, atleast 6 vehicles appeared on the ground at the test site. Furthermore, satellite images picked up a pile of dirt where the Tunnel to test the weapon is believed to have been dug.

Recent reports have stated that North Korea has confirmed Nuclear Activity at their Nuclear Weapons site. According to an anonymous Japanese official, a Nuclear Test is possible to happen at any time. In addition a South Korean official has stated that there has been confirmed that there has been constant traffic of vehicles, and activities happening at these sites.

The Iranian’s have successful tested the Missile that the Russian Federation refused to sell them. Furthermore, Tehran could potentially begin to seek Nuclear Weapons. Iran was infuriated after the Russians refused to sell them the S-300 Missiles. Some Westerns still doubt Iran’s capability to replicate the long – range aire defense system.

In an article posted by Reuters, NATO hopes to strengthen ties with Russia. This alliance would then be very valuable, and it would rid the world of the animosity of the Cold War. Furthermore, in order to have this relationship with Russia both sides will have to suffer major concessions.

In an article post from the Heritage Foundation they said that there are three aspects that the Government must consider before passing the New START Treaty. Safeguarding the event of being able to develop missiles for defense is at the top. In the article they stated that the United States is urging for a quick ratification during the “lame duck” session, so they may have insight to the Russian regime, and that it is amazing because we have claimed that the Russian Federation is not a threat.

In a statement made by the Newspaper “The Hill” on their Congressional Blog, they stated that critics of the New START Treaty use Missile Defense as a way to oppose the Senate. There is virtually no prohibition in the aspect of Missile Defense and New START except for the constraint of converting long range missile launchers for use of missile defense interceptors.

In regards to the New START Treaty Joe Biden set up a meeting to discuss it and potentially have it passed. President Obama will “drop by” the meeting. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton says the Treaty needs to be passed, and voted upon during the “lame duck” session. She further more stated that the Treaty is readied to be ratified

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev will meet othe World Leaders in Lisbon on Saturday. According to NATO Secretary Andres Fogh Rasmussen he stated that meeting President Medvedev will be “an opportunity to turn a new page and to bury the ghosts of the past.” One of the key issues will be Missile Defense, and the proposal put forth by the Bush Administration. The reaction from Moscow of the current Missile Defense proposal is far less strigent that that of the Bush Administration.

The Iranian’s have recently claimed to have air defense missile systems that parallel those of Russia. The details of the Iranian Missile Defense system have yet to be known, however they are reportedly going to be unveiled soon.
