The U.S. has deployed Patriot missiles along with dozens of American soldiers to Poland. This move by President Obama has incited less outrage from Russia than previous attempts by the Bush administration to establish a defense system near the Russian border. The newly acquired Patriot missiles have a shorter range and are expected to be held on a base that won’t be ready until 2018.
WARSAW, Poland — Dozens of American soldiers and a battery of Patriot missiles have arrived in Poland, where they will spend the next two years teaching the Polish military to operate the advanced guided missile system at a base just a few miles (kilometers) from the Russian border.
The mission amounts to the most significant deployment ever of U.S. forces to Poland, which once was behind the Iron Curtain but is now an enthusiastic member of NATO.

North Korean defector suggests the most efficient way to punish Kim Jong-il’s regime for recent sinking of South Korean vessel. 46 sailors lost their lives in this incident. It is widely believed that cash flow serves to buy loyalty of the ruling elite as well as weapons of mass destruction in one of the most tyrannical regimes in the world.
Kim Kwang-jin clearly remembers watching North Korean insurance managers pack a lavish birthday present for their “Dear Leader” — $20 million in U.S. hard currency.
He throws up his hands in exasperation as he recalls the incident, which took place while he was in Singapore in February 2003. In the six years that he worked at Korea National Insurance Corp. (KNIC), Mr. Kim said, bags stuffed with cash were sent to Pyongyang from Singapore, Switzerland, France and Austria for Kim Jong-il’s birthday celebrations. Feb. 16, the North Korean leader’s birthday, is a national holiday in his country.

Iran unquestionably achieved a diplomatic victory by brokering the deal with Turkey and Brazil, U.S. so called allies. It now has means to excuse already reluctant powers – China and Russia – to further prevent efficient sanctions. As it is, it is only a matter of time before Iran achieves nuclear capability.
CAIRO — The speaker of Iran’s Parliament said Sunday that his country would abandon a deal to ship some of its nuclear fuel to Turkey and rethink its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency if the United States pushed new sanctions through the United Nations Security Council.
The comments at the morning session of Parliament, by Speaker Ali Larijani, an influential conservative, were made one day before Iran was scheduled to present the atomic agency with the terms of a deal brokered by Turkey and Brazil. That pact called for Iran to store about half its low-enriched uranium in Turkey. In exchange, after a year, Iran would receive more highly enriched fuel from a third country to use in a medical reactor.

The Obama administration announced it lifted its sanctions on Russian companies dealing with Iran on Friday. The administration confidently claimed that Russian support for the fourth round of sanctions in secured, yet it will take other concessions to pass already watered-down version of sanctions.
UNITED NATIONS — The last-minute dealmaking needed to secure Russian support for new U.N. sanctions against Iran became clearer Friday when the Obama administration revealed it had ended sanctions against four Russian entities involved in illicit weapons trade with Iran and Syria since 1999.
U.S. officials also acknowledged that a loophole slipped into the language of the draft Security Council resolution on Iran would exempt a Russian-Iranian missile deal from a proposed ban of major arms sales to the Islamic republic.

The article is concerned about what the next likely move of Israel would be, especially with regard to failed attempt to impose harsh sanctions on Iran. Some experts speculate that military option is the most likely, as it is the only efficient one in the present, very dangerous, situation.
JERUSALEM — Israel, which initially tolerated President Obama’s effort to thwart Iranian nuclear ambitions through sanctions, has grown increasingly impatient in recent weeks with the approach and concerned that whatever is agreed to now at the U.N. Security Council will only allow Iran more time to advance its program.
A fourth round of potential sanctions unveiled by the Obama administration on Tuesday did little to allay Israel’s fears that the world doesn’t seem able to stop Iran from continuing to enrich uranium or develop what Israel believes is a covert nuclear weapons program.
