Missile System Enters Design Phase

Northrop Gumman has announced its Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System is ready for design phase.  This system is critical to the United States Army’s air and missile defense programs.

The U.S. Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System is ready to enter the design phase, developer Northrop Grumman announced.

Japan Sticks to Key Missile-Shield Deal: U.S. General

Japan announced that it is committed to building a missile interceptor with the United States according to Missile Defense Agency Director O’Reilly.  “Within the next year, we will begin our discussions on production arrangements between the United States and Japan,” O’Reilly stated at the Senate Appropriation Defense subcommittee last week.

Japan remains fully committed to building a linchpin multibillion-dollar missile interceptor with the United States, the head of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency told Congress, even as U.S.-Japanese ties adjust to a new era.

Army Lieutenant General Patrick O’Reilly said on Wednesday he had held several high-level program reviews with Japanese government officials since the Democratic Party of Japan’s victory in the August 30, 2009, elections for the legislature’s lower house.

Countering the Growing Airborne Threat

This op-ed piece speaks on the need for congress to move forward carefully in regards to the New START treaty and the growth of European missile defense. The authors point to future restrictions on missile defense and current conflicts of interest as reason to examine the ratification of New START carefully.

President Obama has made it clear that “resetting” relations with Russia and eliminating the planet’s nuclear weapons are two of his top national security priorities. Toward these ends, the president this month hosted an international nuclear summit, signed the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) and went public with the Nuclear Posture Review (NPR). Now Congress is carefully considering the results.
