Deployment

In response to escalating tensions with North Korea the Department of Defense (DOD) has deployed missile defense assets to Hawaii. The Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, the Sea-Based X-Band Radar (SBX) and Aegis ships have all been deployed to Hawaii. This move comes after unconfirmed reports that North Korea is planning to shoot a missile in direction of Hawaii.

According the some experts, these systems are capable of defending from a possible North Korean missile launch.  General Patrick O’Reilly, head of the DOD’s Missile Defense Agency, recently said it was “likely” that the US could intercept an incoming North Korean missile. John Pike defense expert at Globalsecurity.org said that, “if it (our systems) were called on to intercept a North Korean warhead, it would successfully do so.”
